Food For Thought

When younger, I was on the pizza, chicken nuggets, cheeseburger, root bear and gummy bear diet. Although these items were probably not good for me, they sure did taste good.

As we grow older our mind starts to mature and so does our stomach. I remember I used to absolutely hate broccoli. For one – it’s green.  And, two – it’s bland. Now, I love broccoli!  As a matter of fact, I can’t seem to get enough of it and it happens to be good for me.

You don’t think about what you eat as long as it tastes good when you’re younger. As our bodies age, they began to require healthier nutrients in order to maintain. As much as I hate to admit it, the foods I once loved and couldn’t get enough of sometimes bother my stomach now. Don’t get me wrong, I still eat them because I love the way they taste but I eat them in moderation.

The healthier you are has a lot to do with what you eat. Many foods have natural nutrients in them that are designed to heal our body. Since I’m on a journey to eat better, I thought I would invite you along.

Here are some foods that can perhaps help you;

  • Did you know potatoes can cure a headache as long as you keep the fat and protein below 2 grams?
  • Turkey can help with a sleepless night. A 3 ounce serving of turkey contains nearly all tryptophan which is an amino acid that helps regulate sleep.
  • Need help with ulcers? Try cabbage. Cabbage has sulforaphane which breaks down the bacteria H. pylori which causes ulcers.
  • Not only are pears good but they also help if you have high cholesterol. One pear has pectin and 5 grams of dietary fiber which helps rid your body of bad cholesterol.
  • If you’re stressed, bananas should be your go-to food. Bananas produce vitamin B6 which helps our brain produce serotonin and chills us out.
