Meadowdale valedictorian is GoodGuides success

I have been in the GoodGuides program for more than four years, as both a mentee and a mentor. This program has been very beneficial in every area of my life. The Goodwill GoodGuides program is important because of the personal and influential impact it had on me. I have accumulated knowledge of life lessons, mentoring, and what it takes to be a leader.

Starting off in high school, I was a very shy, timid young girl. However, this program and the members involved helped me cope with my insecurities and shape who I have become today. Throughout high school, we held weekly meetings where we discussed a variety of topics, ranging from our dreams to the steps we can take that can lead us to a brighter future. These topics were usually expressed in the form of a game or an ice breaker so everyone could be involved. The staff would also take us on educational college field trips to help us decide where we wanted to pursue our future education. Opportunities like these were a great way to help me find myself and decide what I wanted to become.

We also gave back to the community through this program by volunteering in many parts of our community. We helped prepare food for the less fortunate at the House of Bread. We have also mulched and planted new plants for a small rehabilitation center.

If it weren’t for this program, I wouldn’t have transformed from a quiet girl to an independent young woman. As I move through life, I think I will always be involved in community service, not just because I think it is important, but because it is something I enjoy. I love being a catalyst for hope and change and I accomplish that through community service.

I owe my thanks to this program. The Goodwill GoodGuides Mentoring program will always have a special place in my heart. I will continue to give back to my community as my repayment for the lessons given.
