As most of you know, I love attending festivals.
Before COVID, I would at least attend two festivals a month from May to early October. When COVID hit last year shutting down practically everything, my festival run was put to an immediate halt.
Thankfully, some of the restrictions have been lifted and my festivals days are back on track. The first festival I was able to attend was the Montgomery County Fair!
Talk about fun, every time I attend a fair, it brings back great childhood memories. The smell of corndogs, cotton candy, and kettle corn excites me and makes me extremely hungry. As I have shared in the past, my disability makes it hard for me to feed myself; so, when I can find finger food that I like and are easy to hold, I’m all over it. That’s why I love the fair so much because you can find food that’s on a stick or doesn’t require you to use a fork.
A few years ago, the Montgomery County Fair relocated from Downtown Dayton to Jefferson Township. The County Fair had been downtown since I was little girl and to be honest, I was worried it wouldn’t have that same kind of fair feeling at their new location but I’m happy to say, I was wrong.
I was very impressed with the parking and the number of accessible parking spots. I was also happy to see how spacious it was. As always, I hit the barn first. Although the smell wasn’t very appealing, the goats, pigs, and horses, made up for it. It’s so cool to see the creative names of the animals and if they won an award in their categories.
Next, it was time to eat! I hit the corndog stand, and of course, I drizzled it with mustard. Then it was time for fries. I don’t know what it is about fair fries but they’re delicious, and, yes, I poured vinegar on them. By then I was thirsty, so a large fresh squeezed lemonade was my beverage of choice. I have to say, it really quenched my thirst.
One thing that was a little disappointing during my time at the fair was it was very muddy. Mud and scooters don’t get along very well. The area where the rides and games were located is not very accessible. To be honest, it wasn’t all that great for anyone, most people walking around had very muddy shoes. I could have chanced it but didn’t really want to have to clean wheels all night. Let’s face it, the world isn’t fully accessible for those with disabilities, there will always be obstacles to face.
I ended my visit at the exhibits, which is located inside of the fair’s office. There were many arts and crafts along with great desserts to purchase. It’s always cool to check out people’s amazing creative talent. I also grabbed a bag of sugar waffles on my way out to snack on later.
Overall, I had a blast at the fair and can’t wait until my next adventure. Will it be the Pork, Italian, Pretzel or Corn Festival? I’m thinking all of them. Be on the lookout for me, Festival Girl. You never know where I’ll end up!
Glad you had so much fun. I definitely want to go too. Appreciate you putting a smile on my face. Looking forward to your next big adventure:).
Thanks Monae!
Miss you girly!
And the fun is not over yet ☺️ Have fun 🙂
Renee,
I know, can’t wait until my next festival
I am glad you had a good time at the fair and enjoy going to many festivals! I just finished seeing 4 concerts in 4 weeks as of last night! James Taylor performed last night and I waited a year and ½ to see. It was scheduled for June 2020. Of course, the pandemic caused it to be postponed a full year. In the spring, the June 2021 date was rescheduled for a 2nd time and so the 3rd date was the charm. Keep on enjoying those festivals!
Mary Ellen,
I love James Taylor! My favorite of his is, You Got a Friend. I know that was a great concert. Keep me posted on who you see next.
