Age Ain't Nothing But A Number

Do you ever think about aging and what your life will look like?

People are living longer, and your chances are good of making it to a golden age, like my beautiful mom, who lived to be 92.

Although people’s life spans are longer, I wonder about their quality of life. If the good Lord blesses me to live as long as my mother did, I want to be able to have fun and live life to the fullest.

Dot Sowerby was born in White Plains, New York, and she, like my mother, is a woman I aspire to be like one day. Dot, who I believe has one of the coolest names ever, did something amazing! She ran the Chicago half-marathon. You’re probably wondering what’s so exciting about that. Well, Dot was 90 when she ran it. Check out the link to Dot’s story below.

This is a very notable accomplishment, seeing that many cannot even run up the street at a young age without getting winded.

Dot mentioned in an article that she enjoys doing physical activities like jumping and skipping. She added that growing up with two brothers had a lot to do with that. I know what Dot means because I grew up with four brothers. When growing up with brothers, there’s a whole different vibe. They usually instill this tough nature inside of you.

Growing older doesn’t mean life should have no value or fun. If anything, I think that’s the time to amp up and start doing things you have always wanted to do. When I see someone of a golden age out having fun, it gives me hope of what my life could look like at that age.

Aging to me means you have been blessed to live life longer; therefore, the sky is the limit.

My mom had many sayings. One being, you must be tough to get old. This is just more of my mom’s words of wisdom that I hold close. As I age, I desire to be just like my mom and Dot.

May is Older Americans Month. Take time to honor and thank your loved ones who are older than you -- if it hadn’t been for them paving the way through life, you probably wouldn’t be where you are today.
