Songs in Sign Language

I may be dating myself when I tell you this, but when I was a kid, two of my favorite Disney Movies were, The Rescuers and The Shaggy D.A. I couldn’t wait to watch those movies with a bowl of popcorn and a cream soda.

Since then, Disney movies have come a long way. Some of my new favorites include The Lion King, Ice Age and the remake of The Little Mermaid. The animation looks so real and I’m here for it!

I think most people would agree that half of the fun of watching Disney films is listening to or singing their iconic songs. I couldn’t wait to sing “Someday My Price Will Come” from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs when I was a little girl. I sang that song so much and so loud that my brothers would cover their ears!

Now imagine if you were unable to hear the songs like other viewers. How would a person who is deaf be able to jam out and share that experience? Thanks to Disney, they will no longer miss out on the fun. On April 27, 2026, Disney+ released three reimagined and animated songs in American Sign Language (ASL):

  • “The Next Right Thing”, Frozen 2
  • “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, Encanto
  • “Beyond”, Moana 2

They even included a special behind-the-scenes featurette to show how they were made. How cool is that?! Some may ask why it took Disney so long to do this? But I say, “better late than never”. It takes time for the world to see accessibility as equal rights that will benefit the world. I’m so happy that Disney finally got it and is being intentional when it comes to making movies more accessible.

Now, if they would only translate “Let It Go” from Frozen into ASL because that’s my jam! I just cannot let it go thanks to my great nieces!

Kudos Disney! Keep up the good work!
