Love a Tree

I’m not a nature lover.

I don’t like bugs or fishing, so if you suggest camping to me, you must have an RV so I can have running water, a bed, air conditioning, and a place to escape from bugs. Have I mentioned that I don’t like BUGS?! A friend of mine calls the kind of camping I’m referring to as “glamping”.

Even though traditional camping is not my thing, I do love some elements of nature – especially trees. There’s just something about them. The average mature tree stands between 50 to 65 feet. When walking/rolling up to one, you have no choice but to respect its majestic beauty. Although rough to the touch, its bark lets you know it has been through some things. Storms, snow, fires, or maybe all the above have impacted a trees’ life, yet still they stand.

Unlike people who typically have just one job to do, a tree has many. One of a tree’s jobs is to provide shelter when the sun is beating down on us. Some trees provide fruit like apples, pears and peaches. Paper is also made from trees which means they are helping circulate the almighty dollar. Without trees we wouldn’t have any physical paper currency to spend or collect.

Another job of a tree is serving as the best playtime piece for children. Children love to hang on trees as well as climb to the top of them. Lastly, one of trees’ most important jobs is providing us with oxygen.

Of all the purposes a tree serves, you know what impresses me most? The fact that it still stands!

A tree’s roots are planted firmly in ground to take on anything the world may throw at it. Yes, it may bend or lose a few branches, but it takes quite an effort to make a tree fall. It was built to take on whatever the world throws at it.

As I conclude this blog post, my thought process is starting to change. No, nature is not my thing, but I think I could endure it if I was a tree. Heck, I even think that if I was granted a wish, I’d be a few trees in a beautiful forest.

First, I’d be an apple tree because I love apple pie. Of course, I’d love to be a pine tree to bring joy to many as they decorated me with bling during the most wonderful time of the year. Finally, I’d like to be like the Hyperion which is the largest tree in the world standing 380.8 feet in the Redwood National Forest so I can look over the world and help to keep it safe.

What kind of tree would you like to be?
