Meet Harold
Harold has always loved movies, particularly those in the horror genre, which is a passion he shared with his father. Spending time with his dad was always the highlight of his life, whether they were picking out a new film or watching wrestling, his relationship with his father was the constant Harold needed in a tumultuous adolescence.
However, after an accidental injury to his eye, he began losing sight, and with that, his dreams of wrestling professionally. Harold contacted GESMV's Vision Services department, and his life was forever changed.
GESMV’s Vision Services provides support to those in our community living with vision impairment, providing adaptive technology, guidance on household and daily tasks, low-vision cane training, and more. With these services, Harold found exactly what he was looking for: resources to help him continue doing what he loves, while remaining independent.
"My life has been able to move forward because of all the generous people who put so much time and effort into me."
Now, Harold takes his love of film to work with him every day – as a valued employee at the local movie theater. Harold says his loss of vision is not a disability, just a “roadblock”. With support from GESMV, Harold found a roadmap to overcome challenges, build independence, and live a life filled with purpose.
