On the Boardwalk
Your girl was in serious need of a vacation, so I hit the Atlantic City boardwalk with my sister Peggy and my nephew, Victor!
Talk about a blast! I’ve never seen so many people riding electric mobility scooters in my life. I couldn’t figure out whether the people I saw riding them had a disability or if they just didn’t feel like walking because the boardwalk is so long. Nevertheless, there were many scooters, making me feel right at home.
One of the coolest things about the boardwalk is the quick access to the beach. It’s right off the boardwalk, super easy to find, and very easy to get down to. Once there, you’ve got the ocean as far as the eye can see. I also saw a few people in beach wheelchairs like the one I used at Myrtle Beach.
If shopping is your thing, the boardwalk is where you want to go. Its gift shops offer everything from magnets (which I collect from every city I visit) to higher-end items like the latest gym shoe that just hit. The boardwalk also gives off that carnival feel. Probably because there’s a real carnival on the boardwalk. The smell of funnel cakes and elephants’ ears is intoxicating.
The food choices on the boardwalk were endless – big slice pizza, fresh fish n’ chips, you name it! There’s nothing better than enjoying a meal at a restaurant on the boardwalk, watching the sunset glistening on the water. It’s truly a beautiful thing.
Of course, I can’t forget to leave out all the fancy casinos! Each one was plush and very pretty. From Bally’s to Caesar’s, they all offered their own fun flavors, including the Tropicana, where I stayed.
Overall, I think the best part of my trip was reminiscing about my mom. See, the boardwalk was one of her favorite places, so we went there to celebrate her birthday, which was June 25th. Mom would’ve been 94. Although bittersweet, I felt my mom’s presence as we walked/rolled and toasted her memory. It truly gave me peace, making the trip even more enjoyable.
I had a blast on the boardwalk. It will continue to be one of my favorite places, and I will always return. I hope your summer is full of fun family memories and adventures, too!
