The Success of a Blog “Make Things Happen”

For the past several years the blog Make Things Happen has taken on new heights that I couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams.

Who would have ever thought, just by having a topic that weighed on your mind you could in return write it down, draft it again and again, change it up a few times, have it proofread and published on a website for people to actually read and comment? It’s kind of mind-blowing.

Often, I’d be sitting at my dining room table and a topic would cross my mind and I couldn’t wait to get back to work, to my computer and start composing a story. It’s puzzling for I didn’t ask to do this as one of my work tasks. Instead, this gift of sharing was sought and given to me, which I’m very grateful for.

Stories of everyday life are what I used to tell to co-workers in general conversation. There was nothing special about my stories or so I thought, but my employer, Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley thought something entirely different. They thought the stories were informational and entertaining and therefore needed to be shared with the world. And through their creativity, the blog was born.

Over the years, myself and some of the most amazing guest bloggers have shared many personal, informational and mind stimulating stories. One of my main focuses starting out of the gate for the blog was to give you an up close and personal look into a person with a disability’s life. I find that people really want to know and are curious about the way people with disabilities live but fear it’s rude or even taboo to ask. I have tried to answer your yearning questions from my perspective with this blog for I’m OK With Myself and I want you to know rather than assume.

Burning questions related to such topics as the marriage penalty, dating life, recovery, service dogs, grief, fitness and food for thought have been covered. Best thing is, when a person approaches with a topic that he or she feels passionate about and I’m able to compose it into a blog post to the best of my ability to bring awareness.

Blogging has become a very important part of my life and I love it. It’s because of your ongoing support that “Make Things Happen” has become a great success. Next year, plan on reading an array of exciting topics, that will knock your socks off.

For now, I just wanted to take the time to say thank you for reading and sharing comments. I look forward to making many more things happen in 2018!

    Shari,
You are an incredible blogger, and woman. I think back to the day when Steve G. initiated “the blog” and, while you may have been a bit hesitant, you just jumped in and got started. Your honesty and humor provide such great insight and each post helps us think about topics and issues from a different perspective. All of your readers are fortunate to hear from you on a regular basis and I am so lucky to have you as a friend.
    Thank you!
    Kim
