Accessible Gift Giving Ideas

It’s gift giving season!

This is the time of year when some go looking for the perfect gift to give family and friends. For me, it’s all about giving whether than receiving. I like to give thoughtful gifts to my family and friends. So, this means I really think about what a person might need as well as want.

Since I have many friends with disabilities, I was so happy to run across an article that recommended accessible gifts.  I think they would really like these amazing items.

During the winter I stay cold! I’m talking about “real” cold and so does many of my friends, due to poor circulation from my disability.  Any item that heats up that I can lay up under, lay on me, or hold excites me to no end.

I was happy to see one of the gift recommendations from the article, link below, was a heating pad.  I have one that not only heats up, but it vibrates to stimulate my muscles. You can catch me using it throughout the day while working and chilling watching television. I also have an electric blanket and a heated cotton blanket that I step into. Yep, many things heat up around my crib.

When thinking about kiddos with disabilities, it’s a nice thing to give accessible gifts and gifts of representation. For kids who need something to keep their mind, and hands stimulated, the article recommends a fidget ring. This cool little contraption gives a person something to do. And, although I’m down with Barbie, this year I’m liking the character Nessarose from one of the biggest movies of the year, Wicked. Not only does the character Nessarose use a wheelchair in the movies but in this year’s movie, the actress that portrays her, Marissa Bode, has a disability. Representation is everything.

Another gift recommendation that I’m loving from the article is, the Lash Wrap! I love make-up, especially eye make-up because I love the way it makes my brown eyes pop. Mascara really makes them pop but putting it on independently is a major task due to the unsteadiness of my hands. The Lash Wrap comes with a grip applicator which makes it easier to apply mascara. I’ll be purchasing that for a few of my friends and myself.

The Amazon Echo Dot is something I am very interested in. These days, I’m looking to make my life as easy as possible. The Echo Dot is voice activated and will allow a person to work the thermostat and the lights. I’m really feeling this!

Although it’s not in the article for a recommendation, I got my eye on the handheld pocket heater. Gloves are very difficult to put on and I don’t like mittens because I think they look babyish. A pocket warmer to warm my hands is right up my alley.

As you prepare for gift giving season, it’s my hope that you’ll check this article and pick a few accessible gifts to give to the ones you love.
