A Mother’s Love

I love to celebrate Mother’s Day. Afterall, you only get one mother to cherish and if are you blessed to have one like mine, she’s the apple of your eye.

My mother has taught me so much throughout my life that there’s not anything I can give or do to repay her. What I found she loves most; is for me to be the best I can be and to give her all the love I can give. Mom is happy when we are just hanging, and she knows I’m alright. With me having a disability, I think her whole objective has always been to make sure I was safe, happy, and well taken care of.  Now that’s she’s up in age, I can see peace in her eyes knowing that her children are doing well.

Recently, I came upon a story that touched my heart about another wonderful mother, just like mine.  It was the mother of Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, Dak Prescott.

Peggy Prescott, who passed away from colon cancer in 2013, always rallied around her son. She never let him give up on his dream, even when he wanted to give up his career to take care of her. Only a great mother would encourage their child to stay focused, for she knows that even in times of darkness, you must continue your journey to fulfill what you were put on the earth to do.

While the NFL star’s mother was battling her uncurable illness, Dak’s career was taking flight. Isn’t it ironic how life can be up and down at the same time?

Dak, who attended Mississippi State University led his team to be number one and was later picked by the Cowboys for their star quarterback. I can only imagine how much strength he needed, knowing his mother would not get better while he was on his way to stardom. When a mother’s love kicks in, the words of wisdom stay with you forever. Sometimes the words are hard to swallow, especially when they refer to something you don’t want to hear,

As Peggy dealt with her illness, she kept her eyes on the prize, making sure that not only Dak stayed on the path to success, but also her other three children as well.

Even in her death, she’s making a difference because Dak made sure to focus his efforts in bringing awareness to the Bristol-Myers Squibbs’s ReadyRaiseRise Campaign. Dak brought his community together to fight against cancer.  He continues to celebrate and honor his mom.

No matter the situation, a mother’s love is to make sure all is well with her children. Even when life gets difficult, a good mother will find a way to set things in motion for plans to be carried out.

Like Dak’s mother, my mom is an incredible woman.  Mothers sacrifice a lot to ensure all is well. Take time to honor your mother by showering her with love and appreciation any time you can for she is special.

Happy Mother’s Day mothers today, tomorrow, and always!
