A Skydiving Wrong Turns Into A Greater Friendship Triumph

Friendship is a wonderful thing!

I have many friends, a few who I’ve known since kindergarten. My friends and I love doing things together. Some activities are just funnier when you have your bestie beside you.

My friends and I have traveled, shared many meals, partied, and celebrated many accomplishments together.

When two friends, Emma and Jemma, decided that they wanted to skydive, they weren’t thinking about anything going wrong. Of course, when doing something of this magnitude, it’s probably something in the back of your mind that makes you doubt what you’re about to do, but you find a way to suppress those feelings so you can do it!

While up high in the plane, everything was going as planned. Everything to make their big jump was ready to go and they were ready to add one more thing to their list of memories.

Emma with her instructor strapped to her back, jumped first enjoying every second of it. Jemma, who was not so energetic, jumped second keeping her eyes closed the whole time.

Everything was going well until the unthinkable happened. Emma’s skydiving instructor passed out cold and therefore was not able to deploy the parachute.

Emma and her instructor hit the ground at full speed. Although, dazed and confused, Emma was still semi-conscious. She remembered Jemma running towards her from a far.

As Jemma reached Emma, realizing how devastating the accident was, she advised her to just lay still and try to remain calm. Or as calm as a person could in that situation. It also didn’t help that Emma kept saying, she couldn’t feel her legs.

After EMT arrived and examined Emma’s injuries it was determined her injuries were very serious. The injuries were many and included a L1 vertebrae and crushed spinal cord.

As fate would have it, the jump would leave Emma paralyzed.

Now, I’m not going into details and revamp all the things Emma had to go through to recover physically and mentally, but I will tell you, Emma is now able to walk. Sheer determination got Emma through, and Jenna was right there for her friend during a trying time!

The definition of friendship is the emotions or conduct of being friends. When you have “true” friends in your life they will encourage you to get through anything so you can continue being your best self.

Congratulations, Emma, on your amazing recovery and well-done Jenna on being an amazing friend.
