CODE OF ETHICS

Employees of Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley (GESMV), assume a public trust and recognize the importance of high ethical standards within the organization. Accordingly, we will exemplify:

  • Commitment beyond self
  • Obedience of the law
  • Commitment to the public good
  • Respect for the value and dignity of all individuals
  • Accountability to the public
  • Truthfulness
  • Fairness
  • Responsible application of resources

In keeping with these principles, employees commit to the following:

  1. I will conduct myself in a manner that merits the trust and support of the public, and that affects GESMVs’ reputation in a positive manner.
  2. I will observe all applicable laws, ethical business practices, and truthfulness in marketing GESMV’s services.
  3. I will treat others with respect, doing for and to others what I would have done for and to me in similar circumstances. I will not engage in or condone any form of harassment or discrimination.
  4. I will accurately represent my education, training, experience, and competencies as they relate to my profession and position.
  5. I will strive for the highest possible quality of service in the performance of my job.
  6. I will strive for personal and professional growth to improve my effectiveness in my job.
  7. I will hold in confidence all information I obtain about persons served, and any sensitive information about GESMV.
  8. I will not have a personal relationship with a participant that might affect my professional relationship or services to that person.
  9. I will be a responsible steward of GESMV resources.
  10. I will take no actions that could benefit me personally at the unwarranted expense of GESMV, avoiding even the appearance of a conflict of interest. I will exercise prudence in the expenses I charge to GESMV. I will disclose any business relationship that could result in a conflict of interest.
  11. I will not accept favors, significant gifts or gratuities with a value of $25.00 or more, or other benefits to myself or others close to me, from people who are affected by the performance of my job. Employees in the Retail Division may not accept any gifts.
  12. I will not lend to, borrow from, sell anything to, or purchase anything from a participant.
  13. If I know that a coworker has violated ethical standards, I will report the activity to my supervisor or another member of management. I understand that my report will not result in any reprisals to me by GESMV.
  14. I will not falsify information in any record maintained by Goodwill Easterseals.
  15. I will maintain GESMV records that I am responsible for in a complete and accurate manner and will not falsify or destroy records to impede an investigation or anticipated legal proceedings.
  16. I will not engage in an actual or potential conflict of interest by using my position to influence a decision or have business dealings on behalf of GESMV that might result in a personal gain for me or for one of my relatives. I will not participate in exchanging of gifts that could lead to an actual or potential conflict of interest. I will not engage in personal fundraising for outside events and organizations or distribute information about them, during working time. I will comply with Solicitation and Fundraising policy.
  17. I shall comply with the Witnessing of Legal Documents policy and understand that authority to witness documents is limited to persons designated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization.
  18. I understand that GESMV property includes but is not limited to personnel files, paper documents, electronic records, voicemail, emails, services, technology, software, company issued-cell phones, desks, lockers, and all equipment. All GESMV property belongs solely to GESMV and is not the personal property of employees.
  19. Understanding this document does not cover all possible ethical situations; I commit to abide by all generally accepted principles of ethical behavior.
  20. I understand that violation of this code may be grounds for dismissal.
