Dexter The Amazing Dog

How does one adapt to a situation?

In life there’s always going to be something unexpected that you must deal with; it’s just like Tom Hank’s character said in the movie Forest Gump, life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re going to get.

It’s easier to deal with a situation when it’s good, but what about when it’s challenging? Will you fall apart, or will you fight to live and find a quality of life.

Now, anyone who knows me, understands how much I love my dog, Tiny! She’s my baby and to me and my favorite guy, she’s the bee’s knees. Although I love my big girl, after learning about Dexter and his story, I must say, I’m kind of sweet on him too.

Whose Dexter you asked? Well, Dexter, who lives in Ouray, Colorado with his dog mom, Kentee, is just the cutest and amazing Brittany Spaniel that I’ve ever seen.

When Dexter was a puppy, he lost his front two legs from a car accident. But that did not stop Dexter. He found the most human way of sustaining his mobility. The amazing dog walks upright on his two back legs just like a person.

Check him out for yourself.

Of course, Dexter was fitted for a doggie wheelchair, but after wanting to move when his wheels weren’t in proximity and, having no one around to help him, Dexter adapted to his situation by just walking.

This may be strange to you, but I get it. As a person with a disability, I have adapted to do so many things in life and so have many others in my community. I want, what I want, when I want it. Guess Dexter is no different.

This tickles me, for I can relate my situation to Dexter’s.  Many times, when my favorite guy is assisting with my meals and he’s going to slow, I’ll take over and feed myself, especially if it’s finger food like chicken. He’ll then say, alrighty then, Ms. Independent!

No matter who you are, the fact is, there’s going to come a time in your life when you’re going to adapt to change. My hope is whatever change you are forced to deal with, you will see it as a teachable life lesson and turn it into a positive for the world to see.

Tiny is still my favorite girl but Dexter has me smitten too!
