Effective July 31, 2023, Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley is acquiring Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio. The two organizations have determined that by uniting efforts they can more effectively grow and expand services for people with disabilities and other disadvantages in the Southern Ohio region. This will bring together efforts to achieve the Goodwill mission, which is to empower people with disabilities and other disadvantages to achieve independence and improve their quality of life.
Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio, under the guidance of Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley, will work to grow existing services and expand new services in Gallia, Meigs, Lawrence, and Scioto counties in Ohio, along with Greenup and Lewis counties in Kentucky. Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley will continue to serve its existing 23-county territory to the north which includes the counties in the Greater Dayton and Greater Lima regions.
“Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio, with the guidance of Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley, will expand existing programs and grow new programs to meet the needs of the people with disabilities and other disadvantages in Portsmouth and the surrounding counties and help them achieve independence and a better quality of life,” said Lance Detrick, President and CEO of Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley. “Through this unification, we will be able to work on reducing barriers to increase opportunities for success.”
“Uniting Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio with Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley will allow us to rapidly grow programs and services offered to the community while offering an improved retail option to help support the citizens in the many communities we serve,” said David Malone, board chair of Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio and former Mayor of Portsmouth.
Last year, Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio served over 50 people in workforce development and training programs in the Southern Ohio region. By joining Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley, Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio anticipates serving over 500 people annually within the next three years. In addition, Goodwill Stores in Southern Ohio will be upgraded to provide a more modern shopping experience that appeals to a greater number of shoppers.
First and foremost, Goodwill Easterseals will work to grow mission services throughout the greater Portsmouth region, while offering exceptional benefits to the staff of Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio. This unification will allow Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio to change more lives of the individuals and families in the community. They will offer services that will include, but not be limited to, workforce development and job readiness programming, summer youth programming, returning citizen services, and services for adults with developmental disabilities.
