It’s Burger Time!

It’s time for longer days, short sleeves, nice weather and hamburgers!

You probably know by now that I love pizza! What you might not know is, I also love a good burger. There’s nothing better than biting down into a good, well-done juicy burger. At least that’s the way I like mine. It just so happens the month of May is Hamburger Month and I’m excited to celebrate!

In my research of how the hamburger came to be, I discovered many theories. First was a story of brothers Charles and Frank Menches, who reportedly ran out of pork sausage at the Erie County State Fair and had to substitute beef in their sandwich in 1885. Second, I found a claim that Connecticut resident Louis Lassen created the hamburger in 1900. Last, I read the burger was created in 19th century from German Hamburg cows.

It’s hard to know which one of these theories is true, but I don’t really care. I’m just happy the burger came to be. There are some foods I can’t eat independently due to my disability. But I’ve learned to manage eating a hamburger on my own, thanks to how they’re made.

So here are my top three go-to burgers:

White Castle serves up one of the easiest burgers for me to eat. They are little square patties with onions. For me, two of the little cute burgers equal a full burger.

Next, I love McDonald’s burgers! I love them so much that when I go, I get the cheeseburger combo which comes with two burgers, fries and a drink. One nice feature for me is the McDonald’s burgers don’t have a lot of condiments. Just a little ketchup, mustard, cheese and a pickle. They are also flat, which makes them easier to handle. When I get it in my hand, I devour it. Another trick I found that helps me eat my beloved McDonald’s burger is keeping it in the wrapper.

Finally, My Favorite Guy’s grilled burger is banging. I’ve been with my favorite guy Darryl for 11 years and he has many great qualities but one of his best is, the man can cook. He makes one of the best grilled burgers I’ve ever tasted. Since he knows me well, Darryl cuts my burger up into four pieces and I go to town. I don’t even need or want a bun because it’s so well-seasoned. Darryl is truly the grill master.

As we prepare to celebrate Memorial Day, which is the kickoff to grilling season, don’t forget the burgers. I truly believe burgers make the world a better place, so eat up!

Burgers are one of my favorites too. My kids always want me to make them cause apparently mine are “SOOO good”, their words not mine 🙂 I don’t do anything but season with garlic powder, but they love em. I have never had white castle and definitely agree eating a burger in the wrapper keeps the mess to a minimum.
