To Start Anew

Happy Groundhog Day!

Today is the day where the world finds out whether there will be six more weeks of winter or if spring is on the horizon.

One thing I love about my job, as blogger-in-chief, is I get to share my personal thoughts with you on various subjects, events, and holidays. Although I’m very familiar with the Groundhog Day holiday, I must admit I’ve never seen the movie, Groundhog Day, featuring actor, Bill Murray.  In a casual conversation, the movie was brought to my attention because of the interesting story line. I can tell you that I was very happy that I watched this movie, and for the record, Bill Murray is a hoot.

For those who haven’t seen this movie, it’s about a not-so-nice weatherman named, Phil Connors.  He is tasked to cover the event, Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania and see if the famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, would see his shadow. There’re many puns throughout the movie that will keep you on your feet. As a result of Connors nasty ways or I would say, as fate would have it, he is forced to relive the same day multiple times over again.

Question, what would you do if you had to relive the same day again?

We, as a people, tend to take things for granted. Often, we’re so caught up in the mishaps of life that we don’t take time to see the blessings all around us. I don’t know if you’re aware, but it’s the simple things in life that count such as; the air we breathe, food we eat, and most of all, our family.

Living life in an angry space can cause one to spiral out of control and if you’re not careful, you can become comfortable in that space causing a life of misery.

I look at Groundhog Day as a reminder to take time to plan for how to make each day great and worthwhile, even if groundhog Phil sees his shadow or not. I eventually know things are going to change for the better and soon I’ll be able to bathe in the sun and enjoy its warmth.

But, getting back to the movie, of course it wouldn’t have been worth seeing the movie if Phil wasn’t taught a lesson of realizing that blessings are right in front of his face. Although it took a while, I love the storyline of making a person keep doing something until he or she gets it right.

As you prepare for Groundhog Day, take a moment to reflect on how to make your life the best it can be. Also, offer up yourself to assist others and have an open mind; for when you do, you’ll find the rewards are many.

Here’s to new beginnings.
