Sunday April 28th is Superhero Day!
Now I am not going to lie, your girl likes a good superhero. Superheroes have the task of helping the world from danger. The latest superhero I’m crushing on is Aqua Man. I think it has to do with the actor who plays an underwater creature, the mighty fine, Jason Momoa!
Usually, when thinking about a superhero, typically it’s a person that either wears a cape, a fancy outfit, and possess a superpower such as flying or having great strength. Although, the persona of someone like that coming to my need in time of trouble, the people who are superheroes in my life look nothing like this, but they do possess powers such as, empathy, love, helpfulness, and friendship.
One of my superheroes delivers pizzas to me occasionally. Usually, the delivery driver’s only task is to drop off your pizza and go. Luckily, my delivery driver where I get my deluxe pizza from, not only drops off my pizza but he also patiently waits till I get a good grab on it before he releases it. The driver also checks my mail and places it in my basket that’s on my scooter.
For me to be able to have a productive day without getting majorly fatigued, I need assistance. This is where my next unlikely superhero arrives. My caregiver comes every morning and helps me get my day started. She helps with dressing, eating, cleaning, and making sure I look good. She’s also very punctual, reliable and has a great attitude. If you know anything about the caregiving field, those qualities are hard to come by.
Friends that listen to you when you’re happy as well as let you vent when you’re sad are superheroes in my book. Everyone has their own set of issues that’s going on in their life. When your friends are willing to put their issues on a shelf and listen to yours, that’s a superhero tendency. Note: if your friends listen to you in your time of need, remember to return the favor when they need an ear to bend.
My doctor is another person who I think should be known as one of my superheroes. A few years ago, I had a doctor that wasn’t very receptive, and was very unprofessional. I’m just keeping it real. My current doctor talks to me directly and makes time to explain everything that has to do with my health in plain language. You asked, don’t all doctors do that? No, some doctors will look over you if you have a disability. My doctor is cool, and for that, I’m giving her superhero status.
Lastly, my siblings who I affectionately call, The Super Coopers are superheroes to me. Although I love being independent, they always remind me that everyone needs help sometimes and that doesn’t mean that you are weak if you do. Therefore, I’m reminded often that if I need them for anything, they’re only a phone call away. Their love and support keep me going.
As you can see, you don’t need a cape or a superpower to be a superhero. Superheroes come in all forms. It’s up to you to realize and take notice of who a superhero is in your own life. Perhaps, if you look hard enough, you’ll find out you are a superhero too.
