That’s A Wrap

As 2021 comes to an end, I would like to take a minute to reflect. So many things happened this year that sometimes you forget to stop and count your blessings.

It for sure was a very interesting year. I returned to work after being off for nine months due to the pandemic. I had to adapt to working from home and feel as if I achieved this new task with flying colors. During that time, I learned that I needed to keep moving; so, exercise became my thing. First, I purchased a Red XL exercise stool to work on my abs, then I bought a Pac-Man arcade game. Moving my body is still an act in progress, but I’m trying and will never give up. In fact, the Pac-Man game excited me so much that I really worked on strengthening my core and legs by standing for longer periods of time.

Like so many other individuals with disabilities, this year brought a challenge with personal care. I was without a direct support provider (DSP) for about three months, but thanks to my wonderful family and my favorite guy, my independences was not lost. I now have someone I like that helps me out daily. I Hope for next year, 2022, that the system figures out how to make things better in this field and my new DSP will stay with me for a long time.

In 2021, I finally got a new scooter and that task was not easy.  I had to become very assertive and almost argumentative with my doctor and physical therapist specialist.  Although suggested I get another mobility device, I stuck to my guns and got the one I wanted. Note: I also got a new doctor! I love my scooter so much that I named her Cherry.

I was happy that I was able to have many interactions with advocacy organizations that continue to fight the good fight to enhance equality for people with disabilities. Especially during a year of uncertainty.

I had the opportunity to share my platform with many great guest-bloggers, such as;  Why men’s health is so imperative, how the aftermath of Covid affects the brain, aging with a disability, how Theo the cat helped in a time of need, the world according to covid, the Stable Account, how a second chance changed a life, and world’s perspectives on disabilities. Also, I had a chance to combine efforts with guest-bloggers, friends, and co-workers on topics such as, strangest questions asked of people with disabilities, what are you thankful for, and favorite holiday memories.

I continued with something I love doing, traveling. Chicago and Seattle were the cities I took on this year. Both trips were amazing!

Along my year’s journey, my independence came to a screeching halt when the airline misplaced my scooter which still baffles me when I think about it.  I think I found a new issue to advocate for next year.

I returned to “Festival Girl” visiting many awesome festivals this year taking in good food and experiencing different cultures, which I love.

Most importantly this year, I was reminded of how much I love my family! We celebrate happy times and pulled together in times of adversity. I’m honored to put apart of, The Super Coopers.

The year was pretty good for the most part. Yes, it had its ups and downs but that’s life. As I say, be positive and make things happen.

This was a quick overview of my year in a nutshell. I’d like to say, thank you for your support in making the blog a huge success. Stay tuned for more informative and interesting topics that will bring awareness and excite you. Until then, bring on 2022!

Happy New Year
