Red Dog Relatable

As a child, I was into the Smurfs, Sesame Street, and Mickey Mouse. Clifford the Big Red Dog was never on my radar until now.

My great niece, who is my hair dresser and the most amazing person, came over to my house to do my hair.  It’s a process, so I suggested we watch the new 2021 Clifford the Big Red Dog movie. I had heard it was good. But being forty-nine and all, I thought the movie would not hold my attention. To my surprise it did and I’m recommending it to everyone.

Clifford, who was the sweetest dog ever, is different because of his color and size. As a result, it was hard for him to fit into a society that expects a dog to look a certain way.  Not only does he not fit in, but the plot thickens when a “bad” man seeks him out for all the wrong reasons.

Just like me, whose favorite color is red, and loves differences, so did Emily Elizabeth. Emily Elizabeth, who met and loved Clifford, was having trouble fitting-in herself. According to the movie, Emily Elizabeth who seemed to be in her preteens was going through the stage of adolescence. Don’t know about you, but adolescences is a hard stage. I know it was hard for me. During this stage, you’re trying to find yourself and figure out where you fit in. Your body starts changing and pimples start to jump out for everyone to see and most just don’t feel too good about themselves.

When life gets hard, you need a good friend to see you through. As fate would have it, Emily Elizabeth and Clifford found each other forming a bond that couldn’t be broken.

I think Emily Elizabeth and Clifford formed such a strong bond because they were in a similar situation; being outcasts helped them both understand each other.

I can truly relate to Emily Elizabeth and Clifford.  For having a disability, often causes the world to try and outcast me, as well as others with disabilities. I’m lucky, for when I feel like that, I call my community of advocate friends who are a force to be reckoned with. Have you ever been in a room filled with advocates? The energy is dynamic!

Without giving the movie away, let’s just say, Clifford and Emily Elizabeth recognized the beauty in being different and made others see it as well.

I’m so happy I took the time to watch Clifford the Big Red Dog! It’s a feel-good movie with a great message for all. If you’re looking for movie to suit the entire family, this is it. Hope it makes you feel as good as it made me feel.

Thank you Shari! I’ll have to add this to the list. For the past few month’s when my “little ones” (young cousins/nieces and nephews) come to town, they enjoy spending time with their, as they call me “Aunty Monae or Cousin Moe”. We choose a movie to watch, grab hot chocolate and snacks, and enjoy the movie together. Shari when you add your spin on the movie, you boost ratings lol #Must see TV

Love your lighthearted review on this movie. I’ll take your advice and watch it. I love children’s movies; they have great messages for adults too.
