Time To Get Organized

Every year I say, this is the year I will get things organized!

I think everyone make this promise to themselves. Whether it’s clothes, books or magazines, shoes, or can goods in the cupboard, everyone has something that they need to get organized.

As for me, my big 2022 organization project will be paper organization!

I’m here to admit that my name is, Shari Cooper and I’m a paper pusher. Although, neatly stored, I have many papers. The papers that I mostly have are receipts, invoices, and medical information. Like many with my issue, I keep papers “just in case” I need them. My logic behind my madness is not to lose confirmation numbers of something I’ve paid for; like a receipt for work I’ve had done on my van, or papers on my scooter, Cherry, or for when I get my annual check-ups at the doctor.

Since I know I have this paper issue, I purchased a file cabinet. Although, I love my file cabinet, filing isn’t something I can do independently. I’m not sure if you have ever cut yourself on a file cabinet, but I have. I want to be independent, but safety comes first; so, I’ll halt until someone can assist me. I also purchased a shredder last year to help me get organized. I’m pretty good with shredding.  I had five years of practice in my previous position. But even with my shredder, I’m still faced with the decision of when to shred something. How long should important papers be kept?

I come to you with my organization issue, for until you know what’s keeping you from being orderly, you’ll never conquer the problem.

Getting organized is a major problem for many. We are creatures of procrastination. Most live with the thought of, “I’ll do it tomorrow”, and it never gets done.

The thing that’s so great about the art of organization is life becomes much more manageable, especially when things are in-order and easy to get to. I’m an easy-going person but I’ve noticed when my mountain of papers begins to climb, I become agitated. Stress of being unorganized is real.

While thinking on the subject, my mind drifted to another one of my favorites 80’s sitcom, Full House and beloved actor, Bob Saget, who passed recently. Bob  played character Danny Tanner. Danny was the king of organization that we should all model to be more like. Don’t know if I’ll ever be as organized as that character but would like to try.

As I make plans to organize my paper issue this year, I’d like to challenge you to organize whatever it is that’s disturbing your peace. I learned nothing is better than having peace-of-mind and if being unorganized is preventing that, it’s time for you to plan to get it done too. A plan is ok even if you must ask for help.

Thank you again Shari for helping all of us realize that we all need to be organized.

I was thinking as I was reading about the amount of stress being unorganized can cause us. I have to admit when I am organized I feel much better about myself and life in general. Ultimately, I trust God to help me recognize when I am feeling frustrated, it is time to seek help and ask for His guidance.

God Bless you Shari! Look forward to your next Blog.

The Art of Organization! I like that Shari. It’s something that very few of us master. Almost every area of our lives requires some form of organization. Peace-of-mind is essential at this point in my life as well. In fact, I learned it’s difficult to function properly and effectively without it. I will admittedly report that I’m great at managing other’s clutter (literally will go help someone get organized) yet, struggle with consistency for myself. I’m grateful for goals, dreams, visions, and even resolutions because, it’s those times in our lives, where we aspire to be more intentional, in an effort to create structure, balance, and organization.

I’ve always struggled with organization but appreciate its value more each year. I’m currently working on drawers throughout my house. I found some cool stuff—always a bonus with organizational work—and I can donate some of it to Goodwill!
