Why I Like Blogging

I have been blogging for around fifteen years!

To be honest, when this opportunity was first put before me, I wasn’t quite sure how this was going to turn out. As a person with a disability, I face many challenges as well as successes, but never thought people would be interested in hearing about them.

Plus, I come from parents whose motto was, what happens in this house, stays in this house. Meaning, people go through many trials and tribulations throughout life, but you make the best out of them and you don’t’ need to tell anyone, especially the entire world.

As I age and come into my role as an advocate, I realize that although I was facing many challenges, I was overcoming many of them. As a result, I felt compelled to share with not only the disability community but the non-disability community in-order to spread awareness and motivate others.

In the years since I’ve been blogging, I found out a lot along the way such as; there’s a woman that makes dolls that depicts people with disabilities. I also learned, great poet, Amanda Gorman, had a speech impairment that she overcame. In my role of blogger-in-chief, I was able to tell you why the holiday Juneteenth means so much to me, as well as, explaining my frustration of TSA losing my scooter while going to Seattle.

You also discovered that I have a fun side when I shared my travels to Put-In-Bay.

Along the road of blogging, I discovered a lot about myself; like when my back is up against the wall and I have no one to assist me, I can do more things for myself than I ever thought. Also, who knew I was a lover of the arts? Found that out when asked to do a review of the Dayton Art Institute for accessibility, which is now one of my favorite go-to places! I found a dentist who has empathy for people with disabilities, which by the way, is so desperately needed for adults.  And one of the biggest things I’ve learned about myself is, although stepping continues to be a hard task, I’ll never give up.

During this blogging journey, the guest-bloggers that have contributed, brought the fire and energy to the blog. I’ve had the best guest-bloggers. It’s because of their affords that the blog continues to stay so fresh and relatable.

I’m here to say that blogging is good for my soul. There’s so much going on in the world today that sometimes it can become overwhelming. Blogging helps me to get my thoughts out in-order to move-on to better days.

I like to personally thank everyone for every comment, email, and accolades you’ve given on posts that’ve touched you in one way or another. I greatly appreciate them. They motivate me to bring you more hot topics.

As I continue to blog just know, my goal is to, Make Things Happen!

I have known Shari Cooper for many years, as far back as her High School years and she has always been her own advocate. Strong, independent, and very capable of making her voice heard. She is so wise for her young age and I love reading her blogs. Thank you Shari for sharing your life experiences.
You have a real knack for writing. Keep making things Happen!!!
